Hi. I am happy to meet you all. Internet marketing is our main focus to gain visibility for our internet greeting card company, 365-Cards. We are working on getting funding for SEO and deeper marketing outlets, but until we do, we are doing everything we can via social media, blogs, newsletters etc. Any suggestions are greatly welcomed.

I couldn't agree more,Perge, a search engine friend actually informed me that sites that seem to contain free broad information about a subject are pushed to the next "o" pages on the Goooooogle next buttons. Thus a really informative website might be found on page 5 or even worse 10. Any monopolistic company sooner or later begins to struggle with the dragging force of too many consumers. I formally worked for a monopoly communications company that underwent this situation, clients were only so very happy when the competition stepped in. The shift was like a gold rush. My company then had to get back to the drawing board and figure out the best means of advertising to pull back the "deserters". It all didn't work out too well and today the company only deals with giant corporations that simply have to much bureaucracy themselves to shift to more efficient service providers, I personally could not get stuck in a company that isn't dynamic enough to match my speed.

Hi Jerry. From my perspective, the more new content out there, the more crap comes up first on Google. I think their search engine theories were good initially but now I am not so sure. It seems to me that Bing is easier to use and you're right: anytime you have a monopoly, you're gonna get mediocre results at certain point in the evolution of any sector.

Look at broadcast networks. When it used to be just the Big Three (ABC, NBC and CBS) content became mediocre. With fragmentation of channels due to cable and satellite, the BIg 4 (including Fox) are actually putting out some decent content now to, ironically, smaller audiences. I don't have time to watch TV but I do recognize the programming has gotten better with broadcast networks. The problem is that fragmentation is going to continue due to digitization of content production. :-) Big 4 had no choice but to get better due to indirect competition from cable.

Bing coming out should hopefully improve search technology. I am not a search expert but when I use Google, I am getting more crap then I used to a few years ago.

Well, Google gives weight to domain names that are aged, content that has lots of links pointing to it (which is often older content), and content that changes often (such as blogs). So you're sort-of seeing the downside of that, which is that some newer material, which may be more timely and relevant, doesn't show up because it is not aged, and it doesn't have as many links. Doesn't really make sense does it? That's why we spend a TON of time doing nothing but generating links for our clients.

I really want Bing to take off. Google has become such a monopoly that it, in my opinion, is no longer a company for the people, but just another corporation seeking to maximize profit. I have nothing against profit (in fact, I love profit!), but I despise a monopoly. So I am quite enthused about Microsoft's aggressive moves lately to cut into Google's market share. Bing also has a really nice interface that provides more information BEFORE you click a link than Google. So Bing is definitely worth a try!

How do you see the evolution of marketing and advertising?
From my point of view, although print media is dead (on paper), it's actually very much alive on the internet and people are reading more than ever in history. I'm having to go back to my grammar lessons and journalism background daily as I write articles and blogs. But on the other hand I can do all the videos I want. I'm amazed how you can do a good video and put it on Youtube for free, and it can potentially be like a free TV commercial if done properly. However, just because everyone has the tools doesn't mean they have the skills.

Jerry - what do you think about Google's search engine ranking? It has gotten so difficult to find real info on the internet. Every time I do a search I get blog opinions instead of official websites! And I only seem to get 2 or 3 year old blog posts at at that! Maybe I'll try Bing?

Hey guys, just wanted to check in and say "Hello." I'm a pure Internet guy, mostly dealing with search engine marketing, although I have gotten pretty heavy into the social media stuff lately. You can find out more about what I do at the following links:

I have experience in all kinds of advertising and marketing. Print (remember that?), Television and Radio. Everything from planning campaigns, designing logos and now I produce complete corporate videos, commercials, infomercials and music videos. Watch my demo reel.
