I've been on both sides of the fence. I ran a venture capital fund and a publishing company. So I know what it's like to be an entrepreneur and I know what it’s like to invest and manage portfolio companies. I wish I could live a thousand years so I could start up and build a hundred different businesses.

In my continuance of analyzing different modular structures of a business model, another lego-like vector popped up on my radar screen to further analyze: gamification. Gamification is nothing new but some of the high tech companies have taken it to another level. From my perspective, we are still in its infancy of applying gamification to the…

Hi Damir. Thanks for your interest in my company. I am building a controller which will interface a glucose sensor with appropriate infusion pumps to form an external artificial pancreas. It is essentially just me although I am lucky to have an endocrinologist as a consultant who is one of the leading diabetic physicians (and is, himself, a type 1 diabetic) in the US. I am currently looking at angel financing to get enough money to do rigorous clinical study (which I can do with my control algorithm running on my laptop) and then build a prototype of the system. I'm an electrical engineer and neither he nor I or business knowledgeable, although I've learned a lot in the last couple of years. That is why I'm on your website and why I've recently read your book (which I enjoyed). Some of the business info I've garnered is contradictory but I think I definitely need another founder. Maybe the angels will help. I think the business (if successful) can go one of two ways: 1) we attract the attention of a big player with the favorable results of the clinical study and are acquired; 2) we go all the way and enter the market with an artificial pancreas. Path 2) will require FDA approval and millions of dollars and 3 - 5 years, which means VCs.
My general interest is transferring some of the interesting intelligent systems research under way to applications with market potential. Hope this helps satisfy your curiosity and thanks again for your interest.
