Fringe Benefit of Social Media: How It Humbled me?

Yesterday, the blog entry I posted on the Office Divvy Blog has been syndicated on "Social Media Today" and today it's being featured on the SocialMediaToday.com's homepage.

Here's the link to the blog post:

25 "P"s of Social Media Marketing
You probably heard about the 5 "P"s of Marketing... Now with the New Media in the spotlight, the same list has been re-purposed for the social media channels. Some folks talk about the 3 P's, and some others talk about the 4 P's of Social Media. But, let's take it up a notch, shall we? Here I talk about the "25 P's of Social Media.

Previously, two of my posts were featured on Social Media Today, two days apart, back in April 2010.

Now, I am an Entrepreneur, a Small Business Owner, and a Consultant mostly working with Small and Medium size businesses. I blog, but I'm not necessarily a blogger (to me that description represents a profession).

Having my blog posts been syndicated twice back in April gave me the "high" --motivating me to produce, what I thought were at least as interesting content and blog posts as the two that got published on SocialMediaToday. However none of those additional blog posts got published in the last 4 months --until yesterday that is.

Today, my post, "25 P's of Social Media Marketing" is the most read and most tweeted on SocialMediaToday; the tweets and RTs seemed like never ending. I am reflecting on this not to brag, I am doing so in the most humble way possible; because I am humbled from the experience and the overwhelming response from the folks.

I'm also humbled from having a community as large as 22,000+ on twitter with the company I co-founded: Office Divvy. That was built organically, with a lot of time invested in generating good content, sharing good content generated by others, and reaching out and engaging. It was a further humbling experience when Office Divvy was featured in Grasshopper's highly successful entrepreneurial blog, in a post titled: 14 Twitter Feeds Startups/Founders Should Follow.

I recognized not early enough, but early on nevertheless that "Content is King." Whether it is content I originate, or just share the content generated by others, persistence and consistency did help my company to be noticed and accepted in otherwise crowded, celebrity-filled, hard-to-get-noticed kind of platforms and places, especially for someone who is operating from such as small suburban location as Palm Coast, Florida.

I knew Social Media would perhaps help me and my company with getting connected, being noticed, staying visible; but I never thought it would make me more humble as a person and as a professional. This is a great fringe-benefit of my Social Media experience and I am grateful for it.

Ky :)

Ky, how do you share content generated by others? Do you ask people to write guest posts or ask permission to reuse their articles on you own blog? I'm just getting started in social media and have many questions. Thanks!

Ky, nice article! Congratulations on being featured. You gave a nice list of 25 things that are worth considering in social media. Thanks for sharing. The first time I checked out your OfficeDivvy website I was impressed with your social media integration and blogging.

Hi Ky, damn f%&king good blog. Content is king for sure. When I was in my early 20's, I met an older man who was a lobbyist in the cable business. His name was Ray Davenport. (He died many years ago, God rest his soul.) Now this guy was there when all the shit was happening in the cable industry: Ted Turner started CNN, John Malone consolidated small cable operators into TCI (which was acquired by AT&T) and became one of the most powerful players in the cable business, etc. and etc. I went to his office in Santa Fe and he gave me a piece of advice I can still remember as if it was yesterday. He said, (I still see him telling me this) 'Damir, never forget that content is king." I love the old man so dearly. He was an incredible person. I will never forget him.
